Comic-turned-political satirist Jim Carrey has ticked off Mike Huckabee, former governor, minister, and current spokes-drone for Fox News. It all started when Carrey released a photo of a painting of Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
In response, Papa Huck called Carrey a “Christophobe.”
Wait a minute! Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a Christian? I seriously had no idea.
A lot of children of Evangelicals leave the faith as adults. They attend church only when visiting family. I genuinely assumed that was the case for Sanders. After all, her job is to defend a liar. “When he lies, he speaks his native language” (John 8:44, NIV). That is what Jesus said about the devil. It describes Trump quite well, doesn’t it? I don’t want to speak for my Lord, but based upon his words, it certainly seems like Sanders is an apologist for Satan.
I am reluctant to use the phrase, “so called Christian.” “For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get” (Matt 7:2). God knows there are plenty of ways I fail to measure up. We need to pay more attention to the beams in our own eyes than the specks in others (Matt 7:3). But Sanders has a whole lumber mill sticking out of her face. I will not call her a “so called Christian,” but I will say that when I look at her, I don’t see Jesus. I just don’t.
Mike Huckabee is like most Evangelicals of his generation. He sold his soul to the Republican party and can no longer tell the difference between his faith and his politics. It is ironic that Carrey still can. I think most people can. They look at Sanders, and they don’t see Jesus either.
If Sarah Huckabee Sanders were asked about the arrest of John the Baptist, I could see her saying something like, “I think most Judaeans share the tetrarch’s concern for law and order.”
I call BS. Keep painting, Jim.
